This film in its simplest form is a documentary on why the feeling of complete content is unachiev- able. Our need for company is only matched by our need for solitude. In Japan’s drastically differ- ent city and country settings, we are presented with modern day extremes of both sides of the coin. Tokyo, with its 9 million inhabitants, and Amami, with it’s mere 73 thousand.
Oshim is a poetic and philisophical film that induces feelings of nostalgia in its viewer.
